Good to know
Step into our spacious great room, bathed in natural light streaming from floor-to-ceiling windows that nourish both your spirit and cultivate the greenery of the built-in planters. A kitchenette, complete with a microwave, induction burner, toaster, and compact fridge awaits. Enjoy meals at the four-top Italian wood dining table, perfect for both takeout and home-cooked delights. The space also features a dedicated workspace, a cozy living area with Roku TV, a convenient sit-in bar top, and eclectic bookshelves where you can unwind with a CD or two on the Bose speakers. For fresh mountain air, open the windows and skylight, or turn on the evaporative cooler for a refreshing breeze in the early afternoon. Peaceful Retreat Bedrooms Off the great room, two well-appointed alcove bedrooms await, each featuring a queen-size bed, memory foam toppers, and hotel-quality linens. Both bedrooms offer direct access to the full bathroom. Embracing Earthship Comfort As an Earthship, this home embraces unique, sustainable design. While there's no central heat, you'll find a propane space heater in the main room, a wall heater in the main bedroom, and an electric space heater in the second bedroom to ensure your comfort. Shared Outdoor & Spa Amenities Spa & Yoga Retreat A stone path leads from your guest house to our shared spa/yoga area, offering a custom built-in hot tub with jets and a waterfall, exclusively for your private use. A beautiful rock wall frames the spa, providing commanding views of both Santa Fe city lights and the majestic Santa Fe National Forest mountains. Relax on an antique Indian oxcart daybed, or enjoy our yoga mats, aromatherapy, a 3/4-bath slate tile bathroom, and a stereo system. These areas are shared with the main house but we do not use them at the same time as guests. Sunset Terrace & Infinity Tub Above the spa, you'll find another shared sitting area with a picnic table. This is the ideal spot to witness exceptional sunsets over the Jemez Mountains and the twinkling city lights below. A rooftop infinity hot tub is also available, accessible from dawn to dusk.
Other Details to Note
Our home is situated up high in the mountains and we have regular sightings of mule deer, gopher snakes, ravens, and the occasional black bear, bobcat, and mountain lion. We've done our best to ensure you'll have no unwanted guests, but we do not use any chemicals that could harm humans or wildlife. As is noted in several places, this is an entire detached guest house earth-home construction across the ridge from a main house with shared spa areas between. Our unique Earthship home embraces its natural surroundings. The thick earthen walls and indoor trees create a truly special atmosphere. While we love being connected to nature, this means the occasional friendly insect might make an appearance – it's all part of the authentic Earthship experience! If you prefer a more sterile environment, this might not be the ideal stay for you. Due to extreme wildfire danger, we don't allow any smoking or fires on the property. We welcome all travelers. Love is love. All ages are welcome, but our open access hot tubs, pond, wildlife, cacti, and planters mean that the property is not particularly infant/child friendly.

***While intermittent snow turns Cielo Alto into a Winter Wonderland, winter weather will require 4wd, snow traction devices, and winter driving experience to safely navigate our road.*** Please note that the 1mi unpaved and somewhat bumpy road traverses and switchbacks up a steep hillside and does not have guardrails. While a standard car can certainly make it, a higher clearance vehicle will be a more comfortable ride. This guest earth home sits high above Santa Fe on a ridgetop adjoining the Santa Fe National Forest. We are surrounded by juniper, piñon, cacti, and other native flora. This unit is the guest test which sits across the ridge from the main house with the spa areas that are shared between. From our doorstep you can enjoy commanding views of the Santa Fe National Forest, the City of Santa Fe, the Jemez Mountains, and the plains and mountain ranges toward Albuquerque. Private parking is available in front of the guest house and garage parking can also be made available. We are 7.2 miles from the plaza, 2.2 miles from Harry's Roadhouse, and 3.3 miles from I-25.
